Adoption Not Only Saves Lives It Changes Them
Good Shepherd K9 Rescue
Albany, NY & the Capital District Area
About Us
We are a licensed Nonprofit Charities Organization dedicated to helping homeless dogs. We rescue dogs from high kill shelters, stray dogs off the streets, abandoned and abused dogs.
- We foster these dogs in our own homes, they are never boarded. This gives us the opportunity to know each dog and their character to match with the perfect home.
- We fully vet all animals before they are adopted out
- We conduct home visits (within 50 mile radius of Albany, NY) and check vet references
Our Motto: "Saving just one dog won't change the world, but it surely will change the world for that one dog."
Mary VanDeCarr
This page is in honor of Mary VanDeCarr.
Mary was the original founder of Good Shepherd k9 Rescue in or approximately 1998. Mary was an amazing lady, she had rescued 100’s of animals throughout her life to include: cats, dogs, donkeys, horses, birds, skunks and even a monkey. She was an animal in needs best friend. She was a proud member of good shepherd k9 rescue for many years and eventually handed over the group to the present volunteers. Since that time, we have gained our licensed/charity status and have continued the path of rescuing dogs in kill shelters, strays, abandoned or owner surrenders. We also take pride in searching & humanly trapping lost pets.
We take great pride in our accomplishments of saving lives and sending them to their new homes.
We will forever be grateful and admire Mary for her accomplishments, knowledgeable support and her true friendships. She was truly a one in a million. We love you Mary!

Our Commitment
Medical Care: Once we make the commitment to rescue a dog, the dog is then thoroughly vetted. This includes routine vaccines (parvo/distemper booster, rabie & Bortadella), spay/ neuters, heartworm testing, worming & defleaing (if necessary) and dental. If any bloodwork comes back positive for any disease, the dog is treated. We all know the high costs of vet care. This is why we welcome any donation of any amount. Every dollar counts and helps to save a life of a needy animal. To Donate Click Here.
Placement: As we dedicate so much time and effort - even months - into caring for each and every animal, our goal is to find the right fit for that animal and family. This means doing home visits to determine safety and suitability of potential adopters and compatible temperaments of other pets. Our goal is to make sure that the home situation is best for everyone. To see Available Dogs Click Here.
